This is a true Record of the original Bill, examined and proved soe to be this 26th of ye 12th mo. 1666, per me, James BISHOP, Recorder. Recorded at ye desire of John MALTBIE. 1662 In English Records, John MALTBY sold his property in East Retford, West Retford, Babworth, Notts. It would appear that it was from these sales that he obtained the capital to start him in business in the New World. 1664 In early Conn. Records (1664-65): Page 61, Derby Records, 1655-1710, page 14: "This Indenture made the six day of January in the yere ou our Lord one thousand six hundred sixty foure;" Land was sold to Alexander Bryan of Milford. I. MALLBIER was a witness. (It is felt that the original signature was "MALTBIE". The "I" and "J" were interchangeable in the early colonial days. Alexander BRYAN was the grandfather of Mary BRYAN, who married John MALTBY about 1670-71. From records, John was a merchant who made trips from England to Barbados to New England and that he must have own ships. He also owned land at Eaton's Neck, Long Island, N.Y. Records show that his brother, William, our ancestor, also owned ships. 1665 Mention of John Maltby in Records of Col Jns. CARTER 10 Apr. 1676 Probate Record, New Haven from New Eng. Hist. Gen.
