American Lineage

1880. He was b. Jan. 27, 1785; d. Sept. 30, 1847. His 1st wife was Abigail Fayerweather. He was of Trumbull, Conn., and formerly of North Stratford.

     Child of Ruth Buckley and David Beach:
VI.1164.  John Henry Beach, b. Jan. ?, 1839.

He wrote the compiler: "When I was a lad I often heard my mother sing an old ballad: 'The Dying British Officer.' It began: 'Come all ye heroes, who'eer you be,

Who walk by land or sail by sea.' I know the homely tune now, and I knew every word of the song, then."

In 1916, Mr. John H. Beach, Stratfield Hotel, Bridgeport, Conn. wrote: "My mother, Ruth Bulkeley, always spoke of her great-grand- father as 'Major Maltbie' and usually in connection with the French and Indian War. I never heard his Christian name." She made a "knotted bedspread," now in possession of a descendant.

Note. Here is a case of accurate tradition as his mother's great-grandfather was Major Jonathan (2) Maltbie.

V.459. Clarissa Buckley, b. July 8, 1804 (Maltbie 4 Buckley, Hannah 3, Jonathan 2, Wm. 1), b. Stratfield Parish, Fairfield, Conn. Mar. in 1825, Henry Seeley (8); Samuel Odell (7) Seth (6) Nathan (5) James(4) Nathaniel (3) Nathaniel (2) Capt. Robert Seeley (1). He was b. in Stratfield Parish, Fairfield, 1806. She d. Jan. 8, 1885, at Strat- field Parish, Fairfield. He d. Sept. 5, 1872. Both buried in Moun- tain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, Ct. Resided Stratfield Parish, Fair- field, on land inherited from 1656.

V.462. Maltbie Bulkley Morehouse, b. Oct. 5, 1794 (Sarah 4 Bulkley, Hannah 3, Jonathan 2, Wm. 1).

"Went to the East Indies and was never heard from." "Not known to have married." Evidently an error as Mr. Daniel Morehouse, R.F.D.#4, Box 25, Kingston, New York, sent the folllowing. (He was son of Luther 6 Mead Morehouse).

"Dad's father was Maltby, died 1849, aged 51. He was b. Mch.29, 1798, mar. Marietta Bennett, b. 1800; d. 1851. Four of the children died of the black cholora and were buried in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, Conn."
