III.33. Samuel Maltby, (Junior), b. Oct. 21, 1718 (Branford Rec. Vol. II.) (Samuel 2, Wm. 1). It has always been supposed that his first wife was Abigail Wilford. However, I think it probable that he mar. (1) (Boston Rec.), the following: "Intentions of marriage of Samuel Maltby and Anne Dyer, May ?, 1739. They were married June 7, 1739."

Children of Samuel Maltby, Jr., and Anne Dyer Maltby:

IV.112. Thomas Dyer Maltby, b. Dec. 24, 1740. (evidently d. young)
IV.113. Thomas Dyer " b. Dec. 17, 1742.
Samuel Maltby, (Jr.), mar. Oct. 13, 1743 Abigail Wilford, (for which see Branford Rec. and Bailey Early Conn. Marriages). Ceremony performed by Rev. Philemon Robbins. (Was she first or second wife?)

Samuel Maltby, Junior, mar. Jan. 22, 1745/6 at Branford Rebecca Foote. Rev. Philemon Robbins performed the ceremony. (Bailey Early Conn. Marriages, Branford Rec.).

                               Rec. of deaths.)
Samuel Maltby, Jr., mar. May 1, 1755, Mary Fowler, of Guilford. Notes on the ancestry of Abigail Wilford:

She was b. Sept. 17, 1720 at Branford, dau. of Richard and Eliz- abeth (Pollard) Wilford. Elizabeth Pollard was the dau. of Thomas Pollard of Maidstone, Co., Kent, Eng. Richard Wilford, son of Richard and Anne (Griffith) Wilford of Walton, Surrey, England.

The record of the death of Richard Wilford reads: "Oct. 24, 1734. Mr. Richard Wilford, late of London. Free citizen, a "salter," died in the 81st year of his age." (Branford Rec. "1694") Mrs. Cushman wrote: "The old Wilford house still stands and was pointed out by my Aunt Foote." (N.B. I think this was at Northford.)

The tombstone of Abigail Wilford Maltbie is in the old burying yard at Northford.

   "Mrs. Abigail
      ye wife of
M. Samuel Maltbie, Jun.
  died June 2nd, 1744
   in her 23rd year."
Mrs. Cushman wrote: "The grave is near that of her father-in-law and I am lead to believe that Capt. Samuel and his son's family had moved to Northford before this time. The old house in which Aunt Ruth now lives, was built by Capt. Samuel or his son Samuel."
