III.40. Abigail Maltbie, b. Aug. 26, 1725 (Jonathan 2, Wm. 1). (The Squire Family Chart gives her birth as 1727--I think erronously). She mar. Feb. 27 or 7, 1743, Samuel Squire, Jr.; he was b. April 18, 1715, son of Lieut. Samuel Squire. The Squires were of Fairfield, Conn. (Rec. by Chauncy R. Hammond who owns an old family Bible; also she is mentioned in the will of her mother.

Abigail died Oct. 17, 1775. D. L. Jacobus states: " He survived many years and married again.

III.41. David Maltbie, b. Feb. 7, 1717/8 (Jonathan 2, Wm. 1). Mar. Sept. 28, 1749, Sarah Holly, b. Aug. 17, 1731, dau. of Ensign John and Hannah (Slauson) Holly. They were married by his honoured father, Capt. Jonathan Maltby, one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace. David Maltbie was called "Esquire."

"David Maltbie's first deed--gift from his father, Jonathan Mallbie, 7 Aug. 1750."

David Maltbie died Oct. 5, 1767.

(Stamford Probate Record. Vol. III, p. 242)

"At a Court of Probate, 2 Dec. 1766, Letters of Administration granted to Ensign John Holly and Sarah Maltbie on the estate of David Maltbie, late of Stamford, deceased."

(Vol. III, p. 326)

"At a court of Probate, 2 May, 1769. John Holly, David Webb and Sarah his wife, Administrators of the Estate of David Maltbie, late of Stamford, dece'd, appeared before this Court, etc. Distribution.

Set out to Sarah Webb, wife of David Webb, late widow to David Maltbie.

Set out to David, the only son.

Set out to Sarah, wife of Steven Newman, eldest daughter of the de- ceased.

Set out to Abigail, the second daughter.

Set out to Hannah, the youngest daughter." 3 Oct. 1768."

"David Maltbie's will is dated: "19th day September, 1767."

Sarah Maltbie, widow of David, mar. (2) David Webb. "Mrs. Sarah Maltby mar. David Webb, Nov. 6, 1768." (Conn. Marriages). (The Tuttle Family Genealogy, p. 339)

"Sarah Holly, b. Aug. 7, 1731, mar. David Maltbie. Her father, John Holly was a man of wealth and influence, associated in public affairs with Hon. Abraham Davenport of Stamford. John Holly was Selectman twenty four years succesively. Capt. John Holly was an earnest Revolutionary patriot who lived on Clarks' Hill, Stamford, Connecticut.
