The "Utica Daily Press", Utica, N.Y., Feb. 11, 1946, has his picture in uniform (1st. Lieut) Beneath is:

"New Protestant Chaplain in Rhoads General Hospital, is First Lt. Leon M. Maltby, pictured with a communion set and altar service he made while in service in the South Pacific from shell cases."

(Article) "First Lt. Leon M. Maltby has been assigned as Protestant chaplain at Rhoads General Hospital...

"Lieutenant Maltby served 10 months overseas in the South Pacific area, his last station being with the 526th Quartermaster Group in the Tokyo - Yokohama area.

"A graduate of Milton College and the Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Maltby was pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Shiloh, N.Y., for eight years.

He had been pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in White Cloud, Mich., for four years prior to entering the army n 1942."

Feb. 1955, letter from his sister, Mrs. Bernice (Maltby) Davis, states: "Leon is at present editor of the "Sabbath Recorder," Seventh Day Baptist denominational weekly. My grandfather was converted to the Seventh Day Baptist belief after marrying my grandmother."
